FULLERTON, Calif. – No. 2 El Camino College had its season come to an end Thursday evening with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-16) loss to No. 3 Long Beach in the California Community College Athletics Association Men's Volleyball State Championship Semifinals at Fullerton College.
The Warriors (16-3) got 14 kills from Gabriel Vargas-Featherstone and 31 assists from Joseph Sico on Thursday evening but Long Beach was too much offensively, attacking at a .404 clip for the match.
Sluggish starts also doomed the Warriors as they fell behind 7-2 in the opening set and 11-0 in the third and deciding set. The Warriors held a 13-11 lead in the second set but an 11-0 scoring run by the Vikings gave them control of the set and eventually a 2-0 lead.
Kyle Anema led all players with 17 kills and attacked at a .394 clip. The Vikings will advance to take on the Irvine Valley Lasers in the CCCAA State Championship Match. The Warriors finish the season with a 17-3 overall record.
