Bio

A product of El Segundo High School, Matt Engle brought an incredible resumé out of high school. He passed for 8,800 yards and threw 95 touchdowns against just 16 interceptions in his four years at El Segundo HS. He was named to the All-League and All-Area teams three times. Engle, who was a ball boy for the Warriors as a child, returned to ECC for his freshman season and was named the 2003 Mission Conference Player of the Year. He was also named to the All-State Team and earned an All-American Honorable Mention.

Engle was named the Offensive Player of the Game in the 2003 Southern California Bowl after going 15-for-27 for 180 yards and leading ECC to a 21-14 win over Chaffey College. He helped lead the Warriors to an 8-3 record in 2003 and passed for 2,656 yards and 21 touchdowns. He was named the team’s Offensive Freshman Player of the Year in his lone season with the Warriors.

Engle transferred to UC Davis and was the primary quarterback in 2007. He played in nine games and threw for 1,889 yards and 14 touchdowns. In 2008, Engle earned the Veloyce Glenn Winslow Award, which was bestowed by the university for the outstanding graduating male senior. Engle is just one of three football players to ever win the award at UC Davis.

Following his playing career, Engle returned to ECC once again, serving as a member of the coaching staff in 2009.
