Women Take 11th, Men Finished 7th at CCCAA State Cross Country Championships

FRESNO, Calif. – El Camino College men's and women's cross country teams concluded their seasons on Saturday at the CCCAA State Championships held at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif.  The Championship races compromised of 21 teams of the states' top teams (14 from SoCal, 7 from NorCal). The women's team placed a solid 11th overall and the men posted an outstanding 7th place overall finish.

The women came into the race on Saturday morning as the 11th best SoCal team.  However, the women rose to the equation and finished 11th overall out of 21 teams, and finished as the 8th best SoCal team beating conference rivals Cerritos for the first time all season.  Deana Takoaka led the Warriors with a 28th place finish, clocking in at 19:28.  Savannah Sehenuk (49th place: 19:52) and Brianna Harmon (70th place: 20:24) were the next two finishers for El Camino College.  Sarah Simpson (88th place; 20:38) and Princess Butler (156th; 23:58) rounded out the top five finishes for the Warriors. 

The men came into the Championship race Saturday as the 9th ranked team in the state (6th in SoCal).   The men stepped up to the challenge on Saturday and finished 7th place overall.  Carson Bix was the first Warrior to cross the line (14th place; 20:41) narrowly beating his teammate Michael Yaskowitz (19th place; 20:54).  Matt Arruda (58th; 21:38), Caleb Ko (73rd; 21:47), and Brian Huang (88th, 22:02) rounded out the top 5 finishers for the Warriors.  Michael Yaskowitz (93rd; 22:04) and Cole Goldman (122nd; 22:27) also ran for the Warriors.
