Warriors Hang On to Down Rio Hondo in Season Finale

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College took a big lead early and then held on to secure an 11-9 South Coast Conference victory over Rio Hondo Wednesday afternoon at the ECC Pool.

Ilene Guerrero and Andrea Canchola led the charge for the Warriors as the duo combined for seven of the team's 11 goals while Taylor Baird made 16 saves in net for ECC. Elizabeth Guerrero and Solee Scarlet each scored two times for ECC in the victory.

The Warriors jumped out to a big lead in the first half, scoring six unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 9-2 advantage after two quarters. But the Roadrunners responded in the third, applying the pressure defensively and converting Warriors turnovers into goals. They outscored ECC 5-2 in the third to get within four headed into the fourth quarter.

In the final period, the Warriors were shutout but allowed just a pair of goals to the Roadrunners to hang on and secure the narrow victory.

The Warriors conclude the regular season with a 4-18 overall record and 2-6 mark in South Coast Conference play.
