Bio

Elizabeth "Liz" Hazell was named the new head coach of the Warriors women's volleyball team in 2017.

Hazell completed her fifth season as head coach in 2022. The Warriors finished 10-12 overall but posted an 8-4 record to finish third in the conference. The Warriors advanced to the 3C2A SoCal Regional Playoffs for the fourth time under Hazell, falling in the first round.

In 2021, the Warriors finished 13-14 overall and 11-6 in conference to place fourth in the SCC. The team missed the postseason for the first time under Hazell and did not advance to the SCC Tournament.

There was no season in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

In 2019, Hazell completed her third season as coach. The Warriors advanced to the California Community College Women's Volleyball State Championships for the second straight season and 20th time overall in program history, the second most appearances in state history behind only Golden West's 24 appearances at the time. It marked the Warriors' third trip to state in the previous four seasons. The Warriors also claimed the program's 10th straight South Coast Conference title and their first outright conference title since 2016.

In 2018, Hazell led the Warriors to the program's ninth straight South Coast Conference championship including the second straight under her leadership. The Warriors would eventually advance to the CCCAA State Championships for the 19th time in program history.

In her first season at the helm, Hazell kept the Warriors proud history of success rolling in 2017 as she led the team to the South Coast Conference title and a 20-5 overall record including a 7-1 mark in conference play. The Warriors secured the No. 11 seed in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs and scored an upset victory in the first round of the playoffs before being eliminatd in round two.

As of 2019, Hazell has earned two South Coast Conference Coach of the Year awards. She has coached 15 All-SCC selections including two MVPs (Phina Leilua, 2018; Aiko Waters, 2017), one Libero of the Year (Kelly Donatucci, 2018) and eight first team selections. She has had two American Volleyball Coaches' Association All-Americans (Leilua, 2018; Waters, 2017), two CCCAA All-State selections (Leilua, Waters), and one All-Southern California selection (K. Donatucci - 2018).

Hazell succeeded legendary head coach LeValley Pattison after she Pattison retired from coaching indoor volleyball following the 2016 season. Hazell served on Pattison's coaching staff as an assistant for 12 seasons, joining the staff in 2005 after graduating from Cal State Hayward (now Cal State East Bay) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history.

Prior to coaching, Hazell was a three-sport star at West High School in Torrance, Calif., playing softball, soccer and volleyball. She attended El Camino College in 2000-2001, where she was a co-captain of a volleyball team that was undefeated in conference and placed fourth in the state in 2001. She also garnered the conference MVP as well as Athlete of the Year honors at El Camino College. She was one of six players on the All-State team as an opposite hitter.

From El Camino College, she transferred to California State University, Hayward. She earned All-Western Region honors for the two years she played. She was a history major and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2004. She completed a master’s degree in physical education from Azusa Pacific University in 2009.
