TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College suffered losses to Grossmont and College of the Canyons on Wednesday at the ECC Gymnasium in the annual ECC Triangular.
GROSSMONT 3, WARRIORS 1
In the opening match of the day, the Warriors fell to the Griffins 21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-17 as Andrea Torres led all players with 19 kills and 13 digs for the victorious visitors.
The Warriors managed to take the opening frame and played a close second set but were unable to pull off the victory. Scheala Nielsen led the way with eight kills for ECC while Aireon Scott added seven kills with Erica Griffiths and Payton Garrison chipping in with six apiece.
Griffiths also dished out 14 assists with Perla Lopez recording 13 helpers and Maddie Gloria adding 13 digs in the loss.
CANYONS 3, WARRIORS 0
In the final match of the day, the Cougars recorded a sweep with a 25-22, 25-19, 25-22 victory. The Cougars and Warriors tied for the day with 35 kills apiece but COC limited their errors to just nine on the day and the Cougars controlled the net with eight total team blocks.
Nielsen once again led the offense with 12 kills and Griffiths added a double-double with 10 kills and 14 assists while Gloria was all over the place with a match-high 18 digs.
But the Cougars play at the net on defense proved to be the difference as Ana Vasquez and Leah Gille recorded five blocks apiece. Celeste Anaya added three (one solo) with Savannah Anaya and Sofia Miranda recording two apiece.
The Warriors will close out non-conference play on Friday with a road match at Moorpark. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
