Women’s Volleyball Swept by Rio Hondo

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College suffered a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-20) South Coast Conference loss to No. 15 Rio Hondo on Friday night at the ECC Gym Complex.

Ryan D'Angelo led the Warriors offense with 14 kills in the loss while Bridget Dorr dished out 33 assists.

For the Roadrunners, Maria Bejines led the offense with 13 kills with Carly Kejmar (20) and Madison Mader (14) combining for 34 assists and setting the team to a .255 percentage.

The Warriors kept up offensively with their opponents, hammering down 37 total kills while the Roadrunners tallied 38. But it was the miscues that did in ECC as the Warriors had 26 attack errors compared to just 11 for Rio Hondo.

As a team the Warriors actually had more kills than the Roadrunners in the first set (13-12) and the third set (14-11) but ECC also combined for 17 errors in those frames to just seven for Rio Hondo.

On the defensive end, Perla Lopez led the team with 16 digs and Sophia Ortiz added 11 with D'Angelo adding nine to flirt with a double-double.

As a team, the Warriors recorded 51 digs compared to the Roadrunners 42.

The Warriors will wrap up the first round of conference play on Wednesday when they travel to Pasadena for a 6 p.m. serve.
