Women's Volleyball Scores Comeback Win Over Rio Hondo

TORRANCE, Calif. - After losing a close first set, the Warriors came back to win the next three sets in a 3-1 (21-25, 25-9, 25-21, 25-23) win over Rio Hondo College on Friday night at home in the ECC Gymnasium.

The Warriors move to 11-12 on the season and 9-4 in South Coast Conference play.  The Warriors are in third place overall with a 9-4 record.  The Roadrunners fell to 8-13 overall and 6-8 in South Coast Conference play.

After being outhit by the Roadrunners in the first set, the Warriors finished better overall by hitting at a .206 clip compared to Rio Hondo's .051 hitting percentage.  Adelynn Abrams led the Warriors with 11 kills for the match.  Jayden Zabala led the team with 24 assists and Saki Yamamoto led with 26 digs.

In the first set, the Warriors had an early 8-3 advantage and led for most of the set until the set was tied at 19-19.  The Roadrunners went ahead at 20-19 and held onto the set for the 25-21 win. 

The Warriors demolished the Roadrunners in the second set.  After Rio Hondo had a 2-1 lead, Jayden Zabala served 11 straight points for the Warriors to give them a 12-2 advantage.  The Warriors finished the second set at 25-9.

The third set was tied in the beginning for both teams until the Warriors took a 6-5 lead.  The Warriors went on a 9-1 run to take a 14-7 lead in the third set.  They pushed their lead to 20-11 before Rio Hondo made things close at 23-20 but two service errors from the Roadrunners gave the Warriors a 25-21 set.

In the fourth and final set, the Warriors jumped ahead to an early 10-3 lead and held onto the lead for the rest of the set.   Rio Hondo got within two points twice and made it a 1-point game at 24-23.  A kill by Brea Rutledge ended the game and gave the Warriors the fourth and final set.

The Warriors have two away games next week.  They play at Cerritos on Wednesday and East Los Angeles on Friday.  First serve is at 6:00 PM for both games.
