Taylor Brydon, Micah Hammond, and Aiko Waters Among Eight Warriors to Receive All Conference Honors

TORRANCE, Calif. - After finishing third in the State Tournament, eight Warriors (No. 4) have received All-Conference honors from the California Community College Athletic Association in Women's Volleyball.

Sophomore outside hitter/opposite Taylor Brydon had a stellar season not only being named to the South Coast Conference First Team but was also one of six in the South to receive All State Player recognition. Assisting the Warriors in a 3-0 sweep over the number one seed in the North, Brydon was one of three to record 10 kills during the match. Brydon went on to total 22 kills in the semifinal match in the State Tourney against Pierce College and her hard work and efforts gave her the All State Tournament Player award. Brydon finished second in kills in the SCC South with an impressive season total of 339.

Also named to the SCC First Team were Micah Hammond and Aiko Waters.

Sophomore middle blocker Hammond finished in first for hitting percentage in the South Coast Conference South with a record of .392 and third in blocks per set at .78. Hammond notched 164 kills in the season and a total of 49 blocks. She was pivotal in the Warriors' defeat over Cabrillo during the State Tournament, also notching 10 kills during the game.

Freshman outside hitter Waters was also a large factor in the Warriors' success. She was the second highest Warrior with kills, earning a total of 257 throughout the season. Waters ranked fourth in the SCC South in kills per set with an average of 2.82 and third in kills. She also totaled 218 blocks and 218 digs. Waters was the third Warrior to lead in kills during the Cabrillo quarterfinal match and also recorded two service aces and eight digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Brooklyn Rubio helped in the defense and was second in the SCC South in both service aces per set (0.46) and digs (257). She was named Libero of the Year.

Victoria Curtice, Nina Wyer, Jaylin Motley, and Michelle Shimamoto were all named to the SCC Second Team.

Sophomore middle blocker Curtice ranked first in blocks per set for the SCC South with her record of 0.93, leading the Warriors in blocks with a total of 69. She also registered 86 kills and 65 digs on the season. She assisted the Warriors' defense in the semifinal match against Pierce by earning five blocks but in the end the Warriors were unable to advance.

Sophomore setter Wyer registered a total of 818 assists and 9.86 in assists per set which placed her in second in the SCC South. Wyer also earned a total of 12 aces on the season.

Freshman outside hitter Motley made a total of 200 kills, 59 digs and 32 blocks.

Sophomore setter Shimamoto was first in digs in the SCC South with her season high of 275, and also earned 23 service aces. She also helped lead the Warriors to victory during the quarterfinal, being the Warrior with the most digs (12) during the match.

Coach Le Valley expressed her appreciation for the team's hard work, "the strength of the team this year was in our balance. We most often had 3 or 4 hitters getting 10 or more kills per match. We were strong in each position with no glaring weaknesses. The team played really well at the end of the season peaking at the right time."

Going into State as the fourth place team in the South, the Warriors showed resilient effort in both the tournament and season. The Warriors finished with an overall record of 24-4 and 8-0 in conference.
