El Camino Women’s Volleyball Finishes Third In State

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – The No. 4 South seed El Camino Warriors started the State Championship strong sweeping the No. 1 North seed and defending champions, Cabrillo Seahawks 25-23, 25-12, 25-13 in the quarterfinals.  The Warriors then went on to face LA Pierce Brahmas in the semifinals losing the match in five sets, 14-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 10-15. The Warriors tied for third place at the state championships.

Micah Hammond started the first set unstoppable with 10 kills. A final kill from Hammond led the Warriors to win the first set, 25-23. The Warriors were dominant in the final two sets; starting the second set 17-3 and never let down finishing 25-12. In the final set, the Warriors led 21-10 and finished the set 25-13 with a block assist from Hammond and Nina Wyer. Hammond, Wyer and Taylor Brydon finished the match with 10 kills each.

The Warriors advanced and faced the No. 2 South seed and host, LA Pierce Brahmas. The Warriors lost to the Brahmas last year in the second Round of Regional Championships and this year, the Warriors came back and forced a fifth set, but ultimately fell short to the Brahmas 10-15 in the final set of the match.

El Camino put up a fight in the match. After being down the first two sets, they came back. Brydon carried the team offensively with 22 kills and hit .588 overall.  The fifth set was neck-and-neck until the Warriors could not defend the Brahmas' serves. El Camino persisted to 10-11 off of a Brydon kill, but two LA Pierce serving aces ended the match. 

The Warriors finished their season 23-4 and officially finished tied for third place at the state championships. It is Coach Le Valley Pattison's last indoor volleyball season with the Warriors after 26 seasons. Pattison was pleased with how the team finished and was state championship.
