Women's Tennis Drops 9-0 to Cerritos College

TORRANCE, Calif. - A shorthanded women's tennis team (0-9) had to step up in a challenging matchup against a strong Cerritos College (10-5) side. Despite their best efforts, the Warriors fell to the Falcons 9-0.

Originally on court two, freshman Stephanie Kingham stepped up to the number one court to face Diviana Bravo. But facing a tough opponent resulted in Bravo winning both sets (6-3, 6-4). "In the number one match today, she played hard and it was a good matchup for her," commented Assistant Coach Darin Dunn. "Her shot selections were pretty good, she was just unfortunate in a couple plays that ended up determining the match. She hit well, and overall had a good match."

Sophomore Natsuki Hoshiko competed against Danielle Pastor on court two but was also unlucky and finished losing both sets 6-4, 6-0. "Everyone had to step up, Natsuki had a difficult match and kind of got away in the second set after she lost a close first set. She had her head down, so we need to work on that and make sure she doesn't lose it at that point."

"Overall it was a good match, I would have liked us to get something out of it," finished Coach Dunn.

Next up, the Warriors host South Coast Conference rivals Rio Hondo at the Warriors tennis courts on Thursday afternoon.
