Women’s Soccer Defeats Rio Hondo At Home

TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors women's soccer team defeated Rio Hondo College 4-2 at home on Tuesday afternoon on the ECC Soccer Field.

The Warriors (7-3-1, 2-1-0 SCC) took a commanding 3-1 lead into halftime and scoring twice in stoppage time.  

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute after Ashley Ruiz chipped a ball over to Claire Mahon who slotted it past the Roadrunners keeper.

The Roadrunners found an equalizer in the 36th minute through Jackie Marin.  Marin stole the ball off a Warrior defender and was able to shoot one past McKenna Morey's goal.

With the scored tied 1-1 heading into the 45th minute, the Warriors were able to score twice before the halftime whistle. 

Yoseline Panduro had a shot saved inside the box that went off the post and stayed on the goal line.  Catherine Curwood-Wagner was there to finish the sitter to put the Warriors up 2-1.

A few moments later after the kick-off from Rio Hondo.  Ruby Colcol stole the ball off a Roadrunner defender and played a through ball to Yoseline Panduro who was able to beat the keeper and give the Warriors a 3-1 advantage. 

Rio Hondo got one back in the 60th minute off a corner kick.  Janessa Gallardo sent in a corner kick to the far post and Jackie Marin redirected it back to Sanaa Turner who headed the ball into the net.

The Warriors iced the match off in the 90th minute after a free kick from about 25 yards out.  Ashley Ruiz whipped in a ball to Allison Sibley who gently re-directed the ball into the net to make it a 4-2 game.

The Warriors outshot the Roadrunners 16-to-10 for the match with 10 shots on goal to RIo Hondo's six.  

McKenna Morey made four saves for the game to pick up the win.  

The Warriors head to East Los Angeles for their next game on Friday.  Kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
