Big Second Half Helps Warriors Surge Past Rio Hondo in Third-Place Final

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College erupted in the second half en route to a 4-2 victory over Rio Hondo in the third-place match of the South Coast Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon at the ECC Soccer Field.

The Warriors (13-6-2) used a three-goal second half to overcome a one-goal deficit against the Roadrunners (6-9-4).

Angelica Taylor had a goal and two assists while Natalie Vargas scored a goal and had an assist in the victory. Karlee Clark made seven saves in net for ECC in the victory.

The Warriors struck first in the 24^th minute as Vargas received a through-ball from Taylor and deposited the ball into the net for a 1-0 lead.

It would be the only goal in the first half but things picked up early in the second as the Roadrunners got a quick strike from Aileen Lopez in the 47^th minute to tie things up.

In the 58^th minute, Alexis Macias took a pass from Rosario Mariano and beat Clark to put Rio Hondo ahead 2-1.

The lead would be short lived though as Mia Hogentogler pounced on a rebound off a shot by Abigail Cazares that hit the crossbar. Hogentogler would put the ball in the net to tie things up at 2-2.

The Warriors would take the lead in the 77^th minute as Taylor beat the keeper to the far post for a 3-2 lead and then ECC leading goal scorer Allison Sibley scored her 13^th of the season in the 80^th minute for added insurance.
