Women’s Soccer Sunk by Santa Monica College in Season Opener

TORRANCE, Calif. - El Camino College were defeated 6-1 on Friday evening at home against Santa Monica College to begin the 2018 season.

El Camino College (0-1) was outmatched by Santa Monica College (2-0) as the Corsairs jumped to an early 4-0 lead within the first thirty minutes of the games.  

The Warriors scored their only goal towards the end of the first half.   Nalleili Mendoza was brought down on the edge of the 18-yard box and was awarded a penalty kick.  She slotted it past the Santa Monica Keeper to peg one goal back for the Warriors heading into halftime.

However, the Corsairs continued to dominate the ball in the second half and scored two more goals to give them a commanding 6-1 lead.  

The Corsairs outshot the Warriors 26 to 2.  Rosemary Montalvo registered six saves as the starting goalkeeper for El Camino while Christina Johnson made three saves in a twenty-five minute appearance in the second half.  

The Warriors will look to shake off Friday's result as they have another home game on Monday, September 3rd against Moorpark.  Kick-off is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Monday morning.
