El Camino College Shuts Out Long Beach City College with 2-0 Victory

TORRANCE, Calif - El Camino College returned to their winning ways with a 2-0 victory over fellow SCC member Long Beach City College on Friday afternoon at the ECC Soccer Field.

After dropping a 3-0 decision in a SCC crossover game with Rio Hondo College on Tuesday, El Camino College (9-7-1, 3-2-0) was determined to continue their strong October.   ECC also avenged their earlier 2-1 loss at Long Beach City College (6-6-4, 3-1-1).

Maddy Simones scored her ninth and tenth goals of the season for the Warriors.  In the 29th minute, Izabel Gutierrez played a pass from the left side to Monica Bernardino in the middle.  Bernardino fed a through ball to Simones who slotted it past the LBCC goalkeeper to put the Warriors ahead.

In the 66th minute, Simones scored again for the Warriors.  On a corner kick from Carolyn Medina, Simones' diving header in the box found its way through the back of the net for the Warriors.

The Warriors outshot the Vikings 16-12 with eight of them being shots on goal for the Warriors, and five of them for the Vikings.

Kelly Gallagher started the game in net for the Warriors and picked up her first win of the season.  Gallagher was also credited with making five saves to preserve the clean sheet.

The Warriors fantastic October continues to roll on as the Warriors move to 7-1 for the month.  They have outscored their opponents 20-6.   Four of those seven victories have been shutouts for the stellar Warrior defense.

The Warriors return to action next Tuesday, October 31st against fellow SCC member Cerritos College at 4:00 PM.  The in-form Warriors will be looking for revenge since Cerritos beat them 2-0 the last time these two teams met each other.
