TORRANCE, Calif. --- Sophomore Brandy Castaneda set a new career-best on Friday evening as El Camino College defeated Santa Ana 50-43 at the ECC Gym Complex.
Castaneda recorded her first career 30-point game as she dropped 32 points en route to a Warriors (3-7) victory. She went 12-for-21 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free-throw line while grabbing seven rebounds, dishing out three assists and snaring two steals.
She was the only Warriors player in double figures as the Dons (5-6) were led by Selena Hernandez and her 18 points, also the only player on her squad in double figures.
Christina Tsukahira led the Warriors with 15 rebounds and tied for the team lead with Castaneda, dishing out three assists.
The Warriors led by seven points at halftime but the Dons outscored the Warriors 14-9 in the third period to trim ECC's lead to just two points headed into the final frame.
But a 9-0 scoring run for the Warriors and a 5:11 scoring drought to start the fourth for the Dons turned out to be the difference as the Warriors held off Santa Ana.
The Warriors will now host Riverside on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. to wrap up the ECC Christmas Crossover. The Tigers defeated Santa Barbara earlier in the day on Friday.
