Hart Headlines Warriors All-Conference Selections

TORRANCE, Calif. -  The El Camino College women's basketball team racked up multiple accolades as five players were named to the SCC, South Division All-Conference Teams it was announced this week.

Freshman guard Taylor Hart was given the team's top accolade as she was named the South Coast Conference, South Division Co-Freshman of the year.  An award she shared with Rohyn Huss of LA Harbor College. This marks the second straight season that the Warriors have had the conference's top freshman, as sophomore guard Ashley Nguyen was the South Coast Conference South Division Freshman of the Year in the previous season.

Hart averaged 10.9 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game, and 2.3 assists per game.  The freshman from North Torrance High School played in all 27 games for the Warriors this season.  Hart led the team in scoring in 10 games and recorded two double-doubles for this season against Copper Mountain (19 points, 11 rebounds) and LA Harbor (14 points, 11 rebounds). Hart scored a career high 21 points twice in games against Mt. San Antonio (Jan 15) and against LA Southwest (Jan 31).

Sophomores Ashley Nguyen and Alexia Mason were both named to the All-South Coast Conference South Division First Team.  It was the second season in a row for Nguyen to be named to the First Team.

Ashley Nguyen led the Warriors in scoring with 13.1 points per game and with 354 total points.  The sophomore guard from West Torrance High School shot 42.4% from the field and 35.2% from the 3-point line.  She also averaged 4.1 rebounds per game, 4.7 assists per game, and 2.0 steals per game. She led the Warriors in scoring 12 games and had two double-doubles for the season against Santa Barbara (14 points, 10 assists) and LA Southwest (17 points, 10 assists).

Alexia Mason was the Warriors second highest person in scoring at 11.2 points per game. The sophomore forward from Redondo Union High School led the Warriors with a 47.4 shooting percentage.  She also averaged 8.0 rebounds per game, 1.9 assists per game, 0.9 steals per game, and 0.9 blocks per game. She led the Warriors in scoring in six games and recorded six double-doubles for the season against Fullerton (12 points, 10 rebounds)., Glendale (11 points, 10 rebounds), Grossmont (14 points, 11 rebounds), Mt. Sac (10 points, 11 rebounds), Cerritos (19 points, 13 rebounds), and Long Beach (11 points ,14 rebounds).

Sophomore Alexandra Ambriz and freshman Jessie Hoffsmith were both named to the All-South Coast Conference South Division Second Team.

After missing most of the season last year, sophomore Alexandra Ambriz provided a big boost to the Warriors front court.  The sophomore from Bishop Montgomery High School missed the first nine games of the season while recovering from injury. Ambriz averaged 2.8 points per game, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. Ambriz led the Warriors with 28 blocks (1.6 blocks per game).

The other main freshman in the starting five, Jessie Hoffsmith was named to the All-South Coast Conference South Division Second Team.  The freshman forward from West Torrance High School shot 36.9% from the field and 28.4% from beyond the 3-point line. Hoffsmith also averaged 3.9 rebounds per game, 1.8 assists per game, and 1.0 steals per game. She led the Warriors in scoring once, with 13 points in a game against Glendale.

The El Camino College Warriors concluded their season with a 12-15 record overall and 7-3 record in South Coast Conference play.
