El Camino College opened the 2019-20 season with an 81-72 loss on the road Saturday night at Cypress.
The Warriors had three players score in double figures but a big third quarter by the Chargers proved to be too much to overcome.
Freshman Taylor Hart led the Warriors with 16 points off the bench as she went 5-for-10 from the field and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc in 21 minutes of action. Sophomores Alexia Mason and Ashley Nguyen added 14 and 13 points respectively in the loss.
Pressila Blanco led the Chargers with 22 points and Jessica Barrow added 19 points in the victory as the Chargers scored the win.
The Warriors trailed nearly the entire game with their only lead coming at the 5:59 mark of the first quarter after a 3-pointer from Nguyen made it 12-9 for ECC. The Chargers would take the lead a few minutes later and never looked back.
They used a 32-point third quarter to open up an 18-point lead heading into the final period. The Warriors won the fourth quarter 17-8 but the deficit was too much to overcome.
The Warriors will return to action on Friday night as they host Fullerton at 5 p.m.
