Peneueta Signs with Vanguard

TORRANCE, Calif. – Former El Camino College women's basketball standout Meghan Peneueta has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her collegiate basketball career at Vanguard University.

Peneueta was named the 2016-17 South Coast Conference-South Division Player of the Year after leading the team with a 14.4 points per game average. She also averaged 6.2 rebounds a game and 3.3 assists along with 2.0 steals per contest.

Peneueta led the SCC-South in 3-point percentage, hitting 40.9 percent (36-89) of her attempts from beyond the arc. She was second in the conference in overall field-goal percentage (50.4 percent) and was fourth in scoring average.

The sophomore out of Torrance, Calif. and Redondo Union High School played 50 games in her two seasons at ECC, winning the SCC Player of the Year Award both years. She averaged 17 p.p.g as a freshman and posted a 15.8 p.p.g scoring average in her career, shooting 76 percent at the free throw line and 35.8 percent from distance.

Peneueta heads to Vanguard to play for head coach Russ Davis and assistants Jana Pearson and Leigha Bednar. The Lions went 30-4 in 2016-17 and advanced to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Tournament national semifinals, where they fell to Lewis and Clark University.
