Women’s Basketball Finishes Regular Season With 86-54 Win Over Cerritos to Claim Share of Conference Championship

TORRANCE, Calif. - The Warriors ended the night in an 86-54 victory against Cerritos College and finish conference 9-1 (15-10). Currently the Warriors hold the South Coast Conference South Championship title pending tomorrow's Long Beach City results, which depending on the outcome could tie El Camino and Long Beach as co-champions.

The Warriors dominated the competition and refused to relinquish their lead, outscoring the Falcons in all four quarters and holding the largest lead in the fourth. El Camino capitalized on their shots, ending the night with a field goal percentage of 46.2 and went 17-25 on the free throw line.

Kayla Bibb led in points, accounting for 18 for the Warriors and seven rebounds. Meghan Peneueta had another astounding night as well, earning a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She also went 3-4 on the three point line which puts her in no. 1 in conference for three point percentage. Hunter Noa missed one of her three three point attempts and scored 13 points.

Coach Steve Shaw commented on the Warriors earning the conference title, "It's nice because our number one goal going into the season was to be conference champions. We set our bar high trying to go 10-0 but we accomplished it by being 9-1 and conference champions. It's exciting for the sophomores who've been with us for two years. They were such key parts of this and so many of the first year players contributing too."

This year will mark the Warriors' third conference championship, with the last one being held in 2015. As they prepare to enter playoffs, Coach Shaw commented that the Warriors will continue to play good basketball. "Remind ourselves what it was like to play against the best teams. We played against tough competition the whole year, we do that because we know that's the type of basketball we want to be playing."

Seeding for playoffs is set to be announced Monday, February 20th with CCCAA State Championships taking place March 10-12 at Las Positas College.
