Women’s Basketball Leads Conference With 106-72 Victory Over Los Angeles Harbor College

TORRANCE, Calif. - The Warriors continue to take the SCC by storm, earning a record score in of 106-72, the most points made in a single game since 2013 for the Warriors. Conference rivals Los Angeles Harbor came away with their first loss of conference play (3-1) which puts the Warriors (4-0) first in conference. Five Warriors earned points in double digits with Kayla Bibb leading the group with 19.

The Seahawks trailed closely behind the Warriors in the first quarter, showing a real threat as they continued to nail not just their shots within the paint but their three pointers as well. Going into the second half of the game, the Warriors picked up the pace to put some real distance between them and the Seahawks, starting the final quarter 25 points ahead.

With less than four minutes left in the game, the Warriors reached triple digits with a layup by Amiete Nyingifa and an assist by Kasey Takahashi. Harbor responded with a shot of their own to put the game at 101-68. Hunter Noa put in the final point for the Warriors off a free throw before Seahawk Tiffany Lucci responded with a jump shot to end the game 106-72.

Coach Steve Shaw shared his thoughts on the game, "We won against a team that was also 3-0 so it was an important matchup for us."

"They have a lot of girls that can score a basketball right, that is always a concern. Though they had a couple of girls that scored well, I thought we at least made them work for what they wanted to do. I thought our offensive rhythm of attacking the basket, getting shots and attacking them was really good."

Bibb had a sound game offensively and defensively. She was 8-11 in the paint and also led the Warriors in blocks (4) and rebounds (9). Coach Shaw commented, "Bibb is so active and so important for us."

Nyungifa was right behind Bibb with 18 points of her own and went 8-14 in field goals and eight rebounds. Meghan Peneueta, Hunter Noa, and Takahashi all registered double digit points for the Warriors as well. Peneueta made four assists and two steals on top of her 16 points. Noa and Takahashi both made 13 points.

Elise Allison was an asset in the defense, recording six rebounds, four of which were defensive. "Allison shot the ball really well tonight and did a really nice job defensively on their scorer and didn't make it easy on her."

"Takahashi has been playing so well for us, she does some really nice things for us. It takes all of us to be successful so it was a pretty good team effort," finished Coach Shaw.
