Women's Basketball Continues Conference Play With Sweep Over Rivals Long Beach City

TORRANCE, Calif. - Women's basketball traveled to Long Beach on Friday night to take on the Vikings in their second match of conference. The Warriors had a slow start but rallied to take the win, 65-56. El Camino advanced to 2-0 in conference (8-9 overall) while the Vikings now stand 0-2 in conference (9-12 overall).

Sophomore forward Jillian Thebodeau was a driving force on the court, scoring 13 points on the night and nailing all but three of her field goal attempts. As the Warriors began the second quarter trailing by three points, Thebodeau made a layup and jump to put the Warriors at 16-15.

Viking Miranda Martinez made a layup to tie the teams at 26 at the beginning of the third quarter but the Warriors were quick to respond by scoring six consecutive points. From then on the Warriors maintained the lead, outscoring the Vikings in the quarter 25-13.

Kayla Bibb came in second in points for the Warriors with 12 points and was four points shy from hitting a double-double with six rebounds. Meghan Peneueta was also an offensive asset with six rebounds of her own and scored 10 points throughout the game. Peneueta was responsible for seven assists for the Warriors.

The Warriors continue their conference run as they take on EC-Compton Center, Wednesday at 7 pm.
