Women's Basketball Gets Back to Their Winning Ways, Outpace LA Southwest In First Conference Matchup

TORRANCE, Calif. - The Warriors opened up conference play with a win against Los Angeles Southwest College, sweeping the visitors 62-36. After a four game loss streak, the win comes at a great time for the Warriors as they head into conference.

Though the Cougars were put on the board first by a basket by Marion Mims, the Warriors quickly gained the lead with help from Kayla Bibbs. From then on the Warriors maintained majority possession of the ball and even reached a 29 point lead in the third quarter.

Meghan Peneueta was a driving force on the court, recording 16 points for the Warriors, as well as four steals and four rebounds. Hunter Noa accounted for 11 of the Warriors' points, nine of which were direct results from the three point shots.

Peneueta commented on the team's efforts. "We were ready to play as it was the first day of conference. We came out a little sluggish but I think in the end we finished it all."

"We have been working all preseason to get to conference and our goal all year has been to be conference champions," commented Coach Steve Shaw.

Coach Shaw expanded on his thoughts on the team's performance, "we have been playing really good basketball over the last three games and we want to keep going in the right direction." He went on to say, "the challenge we have had all the way through has been being good and consistent for 40 minutes. We have shown in almost every game that we play pretty good basketball but it is a challenge playing good basketball for 40 minutes."
