Warriors Come Up Short Against No. 1 East Los Angeles College

TORRANCE, Calif. - Women's Basketball had a tough start to the year, ending their first home match of 2017 in a 62-80 loss against No. 1 in state, East Los Angeles College. The Warriors offense seemed to struggle against the Huskies' defense, unable to gain a lead throughout the entire match.

Sophomore guard Meghan Peneueta led the Warriors' offensive efforts, scoring 23 of the team's points, nine of which came from three pointer shots. She earned most of her points during the second quarter and continued to earn more points throughout the rest of the game. Freshman forward Kourtney Noa accounted for eight points for the Warriors which she made during the first quarter.

The Huskiess outscored the Warriors in the first quarter, while they both scored 13 points in the second quarter. Though the Warriors made the most points during the third quarter, the Huskies still remained in the lead.

El Camino returned from the halftime break set to upend the Huskies, beginning the quarter 24-43 but ending it 14 points behind East LA. Peneueta took the ball back after a missed shot from the Huskies which then found its way to Noa, whose rebound shot put the Warriors within 10 points from the lead. The Warriors defense kept strong and once again retained possession which allowed a pass from freshman forward Kayla Bibb to find an awaiting sophomore forward Elise Allison who through a shot from just within the three point line, putting the Warriors at 41-48.

With only four points in between, the Huskies began to regain the lead with three pointers by Tiffani Martinez and ultimately ended the quarter 46-60.
