Perez Places Third in Decathlon at 3C2A SoCal Decathlon Championships

NORWALK, Calif. --- Gunner Perez placed third in the decathlon at the 3C2A Southern California Decathlon Championships hosted at Cerritos College on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Perez recorded 5,989 total points to finish third and qualify for the 3C2A State Championships, which will be held at the College of San Mateo on May 16-17.

Perez either tied or set new personal records in nine of the 10 events. He scored a win in the high jump (1.87 meters; 6 feet, 1.5 inches) and 110 high hurdles (15.70) while finishing no lower than fourth in eight of the 10 events.

His 5,989 points were the second most in a decathlon in ECC history, trailing only Steve Nuchols' 6,719 points from 1985. Perez also had the most points in the event since 2021 when Shea Wissler scored 5,954.

As for the rest of the team, the Warriors will compete at the Moorpark Invitational on Friday at Moorpark College.
