Track and Field Heads to Viking Invitational; Oxy Distance Carnival
El Camino College had a busy weekend as the track and field squad headed to the Viking Invitational hosted by Long Beach City College on Friday with a smaller contingent competing at the Oxy Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic on Saturday at Jack Kemp Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.
Highlights of the weekend included:
- Tilliana Wakefield-Carl won the pole vault at the Viking Invitational with a season-best mark of 3.40m (11 feet, 1.75 inches). The mark ranked her third in Southern California and sixth in the state.
- Misha Amir-Moazzami placed third in the pole vault, also posting a season-best mark with a 2.75m (9 feet, 0.25 inches). The mark also moved her to 9th place on the ECC All-Time list.
- Nia Sinclaire Jarveaux placed fifth in the javelin, recording a distance of 23.26m (76 feet, 4 inches).
- Christine Adams placed sixth in the 400m with a time of 1:04.47. She also posted a two-second improvement in her time in the 200m with a 27.78 into a negative wind.
- At the Oxy Distance Carnival, Arianna Hurtado and Elaine Dugmore each posted personal bests in the 1500 and 5000 events. Hurtado ran a 5:08.83 in the 1500 and 19:49.90 in the 5000 while Dugmore ran a 5:22.74 (1500) and 20:44.16 (5000).
- Gunner Perez tied for second in the high jump with a mark of 1.85m (6 feet, 0.75 inches).
- Curtis Williams placed third in the 110 HH with a personal-best time of 15.84.
- Laighton Scott was third in the discus with a distance of 41.71m (136 feet, 10 inches). He also placed fourth in the javelin throw with a mark of 38.14m (125 feet, 1 inch), a new season best.
- Dominique Moreno (16:54.81) and Bradley Barbosa (17:08.64) finished second and fourth respectively in the 5000m at the Viking Invitational. Both runners set new personal bests in the event.
- Aaron Cohen posted a time of 4:08.45 in the 1500m at the Oxy Distance Carnival and then posted a personal-best time of 15:37.74 in the 5000m.
The Warriors will return to action on Friday at the RCC Open.
