Jacobson Wins 10,000m at SoCal Prelims
NORWALK, Calif. --- Sophomore Ami Jacobson highlighted El Camino College's day at the 3C2A Southern California Prelims on Friday at Cerritos College.
Jacobson won the 10,000m final with a time of 37:02.08, posting the second-best time in the event in school history. The win automatically qualifies Jacobson for the finals at the state meet to be held on May 17 at Saddleback College.
Teammate Sequoia Gonzales, who won the South Coast Conference title in the event a week prior and set the ECC record, finished second at Cerritos with a time of 37:15.56. Gonzales also qualified for state along with four other runners.
The duo will compete in the 5,000m final on Friday, May 10 at Cerritos looking to qualify for the state meet as well. Jacobson and Gonzales are currently ranked No. 2 and No. 3 in Southern California respectively in the event. Gonzales also claimed the SCC title in the event.
Other athletes that qualified for the state finals in their events included:
- Anthony Taylor in the 110 high hurdles at 14.53 (#2 seed) and 400 IH at 55.50 (7th seed)
- Alexis Pitts in the 100m at 12.20 (#4 seed)
- Izak Giacchetto in the 110HH in a personal best 14.69 (#5 seed)
- Lotanna Muonagor in the High Jump at 1.80 (tie for #8 seed)
- Women's 400m Relay at 50.73 (#9 seed) = Christine Adams, Rickette Graham, Jasmin Williams, Alexis Pitts
- Matthew Irvine in the 400m at 49.03 (#9 seed)
- Naomi Walker in the Hammer at 122' (12th seed)
- Aaron Cohen is the 1st alternate in the 5,000m and we are hoping for a spot
