Gonzalez Wins 10,000 Meters at South Coast Conferfence Prelims

TORRANCE, Calif. --- Sophomore Sequoia Gonzalez recorded the first victory of the South Coast Conference Championships on Tuesday at Murdock Stadium.

While the majority of the events consisted of prelims and qualifying, Gonzalez netted the win in the 10,000m final with a time of 36:58.40 to automatically qualify for the event at the 3C2A SoCal Regionals. Teammate Ami Jacobson finished third with a time of 38:49.42 to also qualify for regionals.

Other Warriors performances in the finals held on Tuesday that resulted in points for ECC included:

  • Naomi Walker: Third Place in women's hammer throw (41.48m/136 feet, 1 inch)
  • Ben Ali-Watkins: Fifth place in men's triple jump (12.31m/40 feet, 4.75 inches)
  • Nathan Albers: Fifth place in men's hammer throw (32.65m/107 feet, 1 inch)
  • Niara Addo: Seventh Place in women's hammer (32.02m/105 feet, 1 inch)
  • Makayla Moody: Eighth place in women's triple jump (9.49m/31 feet, 1.75 inches)
  • Bradley Barbosa: Eighth place in men's 10,000m (36:25.45)
  • Dylan Bucher: Eighth place in men's javelin (41.94/137 feet, 7 inches).

The remaining event finals will take place on Saturday afternoon at Murdock Stadium with the throwing events starting at 1 p.m. and the running events kicking off at 3 p.m.
