Track and Field Competes at Vaquero Invitational; Mt. SAC Relays

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College participated in multiple meets over the weekend as the Warriors competed in the Glendale Vaquero Invitational on Friday and Saturday while a smaller group also traveled to the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday to compete in the Community College Division.

On Friday, the Warriors hosted the throws portion of the Vaquero Invitational with a handful of athletes taking part in the event.

Isaiah Silva was the highlight of the day for ECC as he placed third in the javelin with a mark of 143 feet, 9 inches.

On the women's side the Warriors had a top-five finish in the shot put, which took place on Saturday at Glendale, as Makayla Nored placed fifth with a mark of 31 feet, 6.5 inches. Right behind her in sixth and seventh place were Naomi Walker (29 feet, 8.75 inches) and Carmen Nichols (28 feet, 9.75 inches).

Also on Saturday at Glendale, James Neely provided the highlight for the Warriors as he won the 800m with a time of 1:55.51.

On the women's side, the 1600m relay team of Brianna Johnson, Rania Gomaa, Kaile Reavis and Jailah Robinson won the event with a time of 4:15.48.

Gomaa also placed second in the 1500m  with a personal best of 4:54.35 and in the 800m with a time of 2:23.04.

Other highlights included Sequioa Gonzales (5000m; 18:32.49) and Chinedu Adolf (Discus; 130 feet, 6 inches) both earning runner-up finishes in their events.

At the Mt. SAC Relays, Lincoln Marschal won the 400 intermediate hurdles with a time of 52.69 and Alyssa Matsuzaki won the 400 hurdles on the women's side with a time of 1:07.60 while taking second place in the 100 hurdles (15.19).

The 1600m relay team of Yuto Tamada, Xerxes Reamer, Anthony Taylor and Marschall capped the day at Mt. SAC with a win, finishing in 3:15.94 which currently leads the state.

The Warriors will head to the Orange Coast College Invitational on Friday for one last competition before the South Coast Conference Championships, which begin on April 25 at Cerritos College.
