Track and Field Hosts Dave Shannon Invitational

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College hosted the annual Dave Shannon Invitational on Saturday at Murdock Stadium and the throws field at ECC.

The Warriors performed well with a number of victories and solid performances on both the men's and women's side.

The all-day affair also had a number of collegiate and open entries participate in various events. A couple of these highlights included Leungo Scotch of Botswana take down the men's 400m with a time of 45.57. Scotch was the 2019 African Games Champion in the event.

Japan's Yuki Koike would go on to take down the men's 100m event with a time of 10.36. Koike's personal best in the event is clocked at 9.98.

 Midori Mikase would complete the sweep for Japan in the 100m as she took the top spot in the women's event with a time of 11.92.

Hailey Adams of West Los Angeles was the top finisher in for the collegiate competitors, clocking an 11.92 for second place. The Warriors' own Alexis Pitt took third with a season-best mark of 11.99.

Along with Pitts' showing, the Warriors had a number of excellent showings including many victories on Saturday.

All of the victories on Saturday came from the men's side for the Warriors. The 400m relay took down the event with a time of 42.13 with Lincoln Marschall running the anchor leg and overtaking West L.A., who finished second at 42.25.

James Neely scored a win individually and as a member of a relay team. He started with a win in the 800m, finishing with a time of 1:55.05 to edge out Long Beach City's Luke Chibueze who finished with a time of 1:55.93.

He also ran the third leg for the victorious 1600m relay team of Anthony Taylor, Marschall, and Yuto Tamada who finished in 3:20.48, once again edging LBCC who placed second with a time of 3:20.91.

Taylor (110HH; 14.76) and Marschall (400IH; 53.59) also scored individual victories to round out the Warriors winners in the track events.

In field events, Isaiah Silva won the javelin with a mark of 150 feet, 11 inches while Lotanna Muonagor scored a victory in the high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 2 and ¾ inches.

Other highlights for the Warriors on the day included:

  • Rania Gomaa (3rd in 800m; season-best 2:21.03)
  • Naomi Walker (4th in Hammer Throw; 118 feet, 8 inches which is the sixth best All-Time ECC performance)
  • Chinedu Adolf (3rd in Discus; 133 feet, 2 inches)
  • Stephen Hansen (3rd in 5000m; 16:11.05)
  • Anthony Brooks {3rd in Long Jump (21 feet, 9 inches) and Triple Jump (43 feet, 4 and ½ inches)}
  • Izak Giacchetto (3rd in 110HH; 15.37; 4th in 400IH; 58.84)
  • Sequoia Gonzalez (5th in 1500m; personal-best 4:57.71).

The Warriors will return to action this week with Alyssa Matsuzaki competing in the Southern California Heptathlon Championships at Saddleback on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Friday, the Warriors host the Glendale Vaquero Invitational Hammer and Javelin competition at 11 a.m. and then a group of sprinters and hurdlers will head to the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday.
