Track and Field Competes at Long Beach, Cal State Fullerton

LBCC Viking Invitational Results | Ben Brown Invitational Results

El Camino College competed in two meets last week, heading to the LBCC Viking Invitational at Long Beach City College on Friday and the Ben Brown Invitational at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday.

On Friday, the men's and women's squad competed at LBCC and, despite steady rain throughout the day that led to some events getting cancelled, the Warriors still had a number of great results including:

  • Ami Jacobson won the 800m (2:35.18) and the 1500m (5:13.95) with teammate Brianna Johnson finishing in second in the 800m. (2:36.14).
  • Sequoia Gonzales won the 5,000m (18:40.81) with Rania Gomaa finishing second (19:17.53) and Haidee Lopez placing fourth (20:53.16)
  • Alyssa Matsuzaki placed second in the long jump with a mark of 14-9 ¾
  • Mayakla Nored posted a
  • James Neely finished second in the men's 1500m (4:14.71) and Stephen Hansen finished fifth (4:15.54)
  • Isiah Silva finished third in the javelin with a mark of 145-1 and Nate Smith was right behind in fourth place with a makr of 136-10.
  • Nate Albers placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 36-10 ½
  • Anthony Brooks finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 20-9 ¼

On Saturday, the Warriors sent a contingent of sprinters and hurdlers to the annual Ben Brown Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton.

The Warriors had a number of solid outings against NCAA-level competition, highlighted by Matsuzaki's mark of 1:03.94 in her heat of the 400m Hurdles. The time currently leads the state and places her ninth on the ECC All-Time Top-10 Performer List.

Other athletes competing for the Warriors included Xerxes Reamer, Jaylen Allen, Lincoln Marschall, Anthony Taylor, Izak Giacchetto, Alexis Pitts and the 400m relay team (Alley, Reamer, Taylor, Marschall.)

The Warriors will now head to the Bakersfield Invitational on Friday.
