Warriors Grab Four Wins at South Coast Conference Finals

TORRANCE, Calif. --- The El Camino College track and field team scored four victories and automatically qualified more at the South Coast Conference Finals held at ECC on Saturday night

The Warriors picked up wins from Dominic Britton and James Neely on the men's side while Sierra Stokes and Yukina Hamachi each scored victories on the women's side.

In addition, the men ECC had nine individuals and both relay teams automatically qualify for the California Community College Athletics Association Track and Field Southern California Championships. On the women's side, 12 individuals and both relay teams also automatically qualified for the CCCAA Track and Field SoCal Championships, which will be held on May 6 (prelims) and May 13 (finals) at Moorpark College.

Back to Saturday, the Warriors finished fourth in the team standings with a score of 80.50 but added two conference champions to the program's storied history on the men's side. Neely was crowned the conference champion in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.96. He is currently ranked No. 10 in Southern California in the event.

Britton continued his stellar year in the 110-meter high hurdles as he secured the conference title with a time of 14.75. He ran a time that was a quarter of a second slower than his personal best and still won the event by almost a half-second. His personal best time of 14.51 currently ranks No. 4 in the state.

Mount San Antonio ran away with the team conference title for the men with 470.50 points, more than 350 points better than runner-up Cerritos. Long Beach (106) finished third.

On the women's side, the team finished fourth overall with 93 points. Mt. SAC won the conference title with 304 points with Cerritos (186) and Long Beach (102) rounding out the top-3.

Stokes claimed the conference title in the 400-meters in a tightly contested race. Stokes edged Jamari Davis of Mt. SAC by less than two-tenths of a second. Stokes crossed the finish at 57.53 with Davis finishing at 57.67. Stokes' time currently ranks No. 4 in the state.

Along with the conference title, Stokes finished third in the 200-meters to automatically qualify for the CCCAA SoCal Championships.

Hamachi, who had already qualified for the CCCAA SoCal Championships in the heptathlon going into Saturday, won the conference title in the long jump on Saturday. Her jump of 5.67 meters (18 feet, 7.25 inches) was a runaway winner in the event and is now the No. 2 mark in the state.
