Hamachi Finishes Second in SoCal Heptathlon, Qualifies for State
TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College's Yukina Hamachi finished second overall at the SoCal Heptathlon Championships hosted at Murdock Stadium.
Hamachi accumulated 4,260 points overall to finish second in the 16-athlete field over two days at ECC. It was a position she held after day one and she solidified her position on the final day of action.
The heptathlon consisted of seven events and Hamachi finished in the top-5 in six of the events. She was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.32, finishing behind only Jazzmine Davis of Cerritos.
Hamachi also placed second in the high jump with a mark of 1.50 meters with only heptathlon champion Jolie Robinson posting a higher jump (1.56m).
Hamachi posted a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 9.12 meters and followed that with a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters (27.34).
She posted another runner-up finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.21 meters and then posted another fourth in the javelin (30.57 meters). Her lone finish outside the top-5 was a seventh place showing in the 800 meters with a time of 2:39.48.
Hamachi now currently sits at No. 2 in the event in the state and she is also the No. 2 performer all-time in ECC history in the event.
She has qualified for the CCCAA State Championships, which will take place May 20-21 at Mount San Antonio College.
