Five Wins for the Warriors Track and Field Team at Cerritos Invitational

RESULTS

NORWALK, Calif. - The El Camino College Track and Field team participated in their first invitational away from home for the season on Saturday at the Cerritos College Open Invitational.  

The invitational field included Cuyamaca, Mt. SAC, Cerritos, Pasadena, Long Beach, San Bernardino, East LA, Team China, and other club athletes.  

Most of the El Camino track and field team participated in the event, with a few student-athletes yet to make their spring debut so far.  

There many highlights throughout the day but there were five individual winners in different events for the Warriors.  

-Freshman Jordan Baylis won the high jump with a jump of 1.93 meters/6'4".

-Sophomore Matt Arruda won the 3,000m run with a time of 8:49.

-Sophomore Caleb Ko won the 3,000m steeplechase run with a time of 9:45.

-Freshman Necole Ellis won the discus toss with a throw of 109-7.

-And lastly, Sophomore Jay Rhambo won in the hammer toss with a throw of 141-6, which tied her for third all time in ECC history.  Rhambo also came in second place in the shot put with a throw of 11.39 meters/37' 4.5".

Some other standout performances from the men included Qwintin Workman who came in second place in the 400m race with a time of 48.07 as well as second place in the long jump with a jump of 6.75 meters/22' 1.75".  Shea Wissler came in third place in the high jump with a jump of 1.78 meters/5'10" and in the javelin toss with a throw of 44.79 meters/146'11". Kevin Oliva came in second place in the shot put (13.52 meters/44' 4.25") and in the discuss toss (42.16 meters/138' 4"). Patrick Washington came in second place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.36 and came in second place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.59.  Timothy Mates came in third place with a time of 56.96. Christopher Pitts came in third place in the 400m race with a time of 49.49. Landon Sharp came in second in the collegiate competition in the 100m dash with a time of 10.83. The Warriors came in third place in both the 4x100 relay and the 4x400 relay.

Some other standout performances from the women included Aaliyah Graves placing third in the 100 meter race with a time of 12.92.  Carmen Hernandez came in third place (collegiate competition standings) in the 1,500m run with a time of 5:16 and in second place overall in the 3,000m run with a time of 11:18. Savannah Sehenuk, Sarah Simpson, and Deana Takaoka also placed in the top 5 in the collegiate standings in the 3,000m run as well.  Samantha Ealy came in third place in the long jump with a jump of 4.91 meters/16'1.5" and in third place in the triple jump with a jump of 11.09 meters/36'4.75." Kyja Free came in third in the shot put with a throw of 10.89 meters/35' 9" and third place in the hammer with a throw of 39.97 meters/131' 2".

The El Camino College track and field team heads to Long Beach State this Friday and Saturday to compete in the Beach Open against University and selected CCCAA competition.
