Multiple Individuals and Relay Teams Qualify for CCCAA Southern California Championships
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Warriors track and field team had another successful day on the track at the CCCAA Southern California Prelims. Twelve men qualified individually for next week's CCCAA Southern California Finals and both relay teams qualified. Five individual women qualified for the CCCAA Southern California Finals and two relay teams did as well.
Carson Bix qualified as the number one seed for the 1500m race by running 4:02.60 and defeating the nearest competitor by .20 hundredths of a second. Bix is also qualified for the 5,000m race from an earlier race this season.
Tate Curran is tied with five other pole vaulters for the number one seed in the pole vault competition. Curran pole vaulted 4.50 meters at saturday's event.
Jasher Foster is the number two seed in the 110m hurdles race after running a time of 14.53. The number one qualifying time was by Mt. Sac's Leonardo Brown who ran a 14.16. Foster is also the number three seed in the 400m hurdles race by running a time of 54.35.
Qwintin Workman qualified individually for two events in the 400m dash and the 400m hurdles. Workman won his heat in the 400m for the third fastest qualifying time at 48.07. The number one time was run by Keylan Dennis of Riverside who ran a 47.86. Workman is the number four seed in the 400m hurdles just behind Foster after running a time of 54.39.
Timothy Mates qualified individually for both hurdles events as well. Mates ran a 15.10 in the 110m hurdles which gave him the seventh fastest qualifying time. Mates also ran a 55.35 in the 400m hurdles which qualified him for next week's race as the number 9 seed.
Spencer Coneybeare qualified in the 800m run by running a time of 1:56.33. Coneybeare will be seeded as the number eight seed.
Matt Arruda qualified for the 5000m finals in a previous event. Arruda also ran in the 10,000m run and came in twelfth place with a time of 33:58.28. The team is awaiting further results to see if he will qualify for the state championships in that event. Anthonee Parker qualified for the finals in the Javelin throw in a previous event.
Both El Camino College men's relay teams have qualified for next week's southern california finals. The 4x100 relay team ran the fourth fastest time with a time of 41.97. The 4x400 relay team also came in fourth place with a time of 3:17.99.
Marie Abe qualified for the pole vault finals tied with ten other competitors as the second seed by pole vaulting 3.05 meters (10-0 feet).
Tyra Jackson came in fifth place in the heptathlon with 3603 points. Jackson qualified as the number ten seed in the triple jump with a jump of 10.57 meters (34'8 ¼ feet). Jackson also qualified in the long jump as the number twelve seed by jumping 5.06 meters (16-7 ¼ feet).
Kyja Free qualified for the finals in the the Discus throw from a previous event. However, Free placed eighth overall in the hammer throw with a throw of 44.44 meters (145-10 feet). It was her personal best throw and the second furthest of all time in El Camino College history. The team is awaiting further results to see if she will qualify for the state championships in two weeks.
Brianna Harmon qualified for the 5000m finals from a time in a previous event.
In the women's 10,000m run Sara Simpson came in tenth place with a time of 43:20.04 and Deana Takaoka came in twelfth place with a time of 44:12.55. The team is waiting on how many Southern California 10k finalists will advance to the state championships.
The Warriors qualified as the eighth seed in the 4x100 relay race with a time of 51.16. They also qualified as the eighth seed in the 4x400 relay race with a time of 4:10.73.
Next weekend on Saturday May 12th, the Warrior individuals and relays teams that advanced will compete at the CCCAA Southern California Championships at San Diego Mesa College.
