Swimming Opens Year at SCC Pentahlon

MONTERREY PARK, Calif. --- The 2025 El Camino College swimming and diving squad made its season debut on Friday at the South Coast Conference Pentathlon hosted at East Los Angeles College in Monterrey Park, Calif.
Sophomore Iyanah Samayoa provided the highlights on the women's side as she won the pentathlon with a cumulative time of 6:26.60. Her time was nearly 13 seconds better than runner-up Carolyn Kao of Mount San Antonio.
The pentathlon combines the times of five events: the 200 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breastroke and 100 freestyle.
Samayoa recorded wins in the 200 IM (2:15.71) and 100 breast (1:08.31) with second-place finishes in the 100 back and 100 free. She also moved up in the ECC record books in both the 100 fly (1:02.29, 10th all-time) and the 100 back (1:03.96, 9th all-time).
On the men's side, Ryan Song paced the Warriors as he posted top-five finishes in the 200 IM (2:00.95, 3rd), 100 fly (54.35, 5th), and 100 back (56.68, 5th).
Song also posted the 14th best mark in the 50 back with a time of 27.77.
The Warriors will be back in action on Friday as they host the ECC Triple Distance Invite at the ECC Aquatics Center. The event is set to begin at 10 a.m.
