More Records Broken and Champions Crowned on Day Two of Conference Championships

WALNUT, Calif. --- El Camino College continued to excel on day two of the South Coast Conference Championships on Friday at the Mt. SAC Aquatics Center.

After a morning with solid showings in the prelims, the finals began with another Warriors victory. The women's 200 medley relay team of Danielle Ciscel, Iyanah Samayoa, Mia Park and Diana Nguyen claimed event 13 of the championships with a time of 1:50.85, setting a new top mark in the state. It was also just .02 off the school record and the first time the Warriors have won the event since 2017. Ciscel's time of 29.72 in the 50 backstroke was also the 10th best time in school history.

The Warriors would crown three more conference champions on day two with Park claiming the 400 individual medley title with a time of 4:31.67. It was a new SCC meet record, breaking former Warrior Ida Due's time of 4:32.99 from 2019.

Fin Kircher added another gold medal to his trophy case in the men's 400 IM to complete the sweep for the Warriors. He finished in 4:07.91 and became the first Warriors conference champion in the event since 2014.

Samayoa claimed the last conference title of the day for ECC in the 100 breaststroke, breaking her own school record in the process with a time of 1:05.10.

Other records set and medals collected on day two included:

  • The women's 800 free relay team of Park, Samayoa, Nguyen and Raina Henty-Dodd finished second in the event with a time of 8:12.56.
  • The men's 800 free relay team of Kircher, Song, Crivello and Marc Bugarin placed third in the event with a time of 7:09.28.
  • Alex Yousefi finished third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.50. In the prelims, he broke the oldest ECC record in the books with a time of 51.29, besting Danny Matthies' record set back in 1972. Yousefi also finished third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.64.
  • The men's 200 medley relay team of Yousefi, Ryan Song, Vincenzo Crivello and Justin Rash finished third in the event and set a new ECC record with a time of 1:35.48.
  • Dylan Kenney placed third in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.73.

The SCC Championships will conclude on Saturday with the final 12 events. Prelims set to begin at 10 a.m. and the finals get started at approximately 4 p.m.
