Park Sets Two New Records as Warriors Dominate Cerritos

NORWALK, Calif. --- Sophomore Mia Park set two new El Camino College records as the Warriors traveled to Cerritos for a South Coast Conference dual meet on Friday morning.

Park set new ECC records in the 200 butterfly and the 200 breastroke on Friday. She won the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.46, breaking her own record of 2:07.17 that she set as a freshman in 2023. She also usurped teammate Iyanah Samayoa's record in the 200 breaststroke after Park recorded a 2:26.46 on Friday. Samayoa previously set the record on Feb. 3 at the season-opening Triple Distance Invitational at the ECC Aquatics Center with a time of 2:29.35. Prior to this season, the record in the 200 breaststroke stood for 43 years as ECC Hall-of-Famer Sue Saatkamp set the record (2:29.50) in 1981.

Overall, Park recorded three individual wins on Friday as she also won the 100 fly (57.34) and was a member for the 400 free relay team along with Samayoa, Diana Nguyen and Raina Henty-Dodd that won the event by more than a minute with a time of 3:52.84.

The Warriors dominated the meet overall on both the men's and women's side as the teams recorded wins in 26 of the 28 swimming events held. The Falcons wins came in the diving events and the women's 200 individual medley and the women's 100 breaststroke as the Warriors had no one competing in those events.

The men's final score was 203-54 while the women's score finished at 157-57, both wins for ECC.
