Men and Women’s Swimming Finish Second at Golden West Invite

HUNTINTON BEACH, Calif. --- El Camino College had an outstanding day at the Golden West Sprint Invitational on Friday at Golden West College.

On the men's side, the Warriors finished second overall in the nine-team competition with 263 total points. The host Rustlers placed first with 298.5 points and Riverside placed third with 260 points.

On the women's side, the Warriors also placed second overall with 261 overall points. Riverside took the top spot with 305 points and Grossmont came in third with 173 points.

The women secured 11 victories on Friday with seven individual wins and four triumphs in relay events.

Mia Park scored three of the individual wins as she took down the 500 freestyle (5:12.50) by more than 20 seconds. She also won the 100 breaststroke (1:08.81) and the 100 individual medley (59.86). Her time in the IM was the second-best mark all-time in ECC history.

Freshman Iyanah Samayoa registered a pair of individual wins, taking down the 50 breaststroke (31.62) and 200 free (2:03.50). Her time in the 50 breaststroke was the second best mark in ECC history.

She was also a member of the relay team with Park, Diana Nguyen and Raina Henty-Dodd that won the 800 free (8:33.87, 8th all-time), 200 free (1:44.73, 10th all-time), 400 medley (4:21.10, 8th all-time), 400 free relay (3:52.22, 9th all-time) and 200 medley (1:57.04).

On the men's side, Fin Kircher and Alex Yousefi made their way onto the top of the history books as they each broke a school record on Friday.

Kircher set a new school record in the 100 individual medley with a time of 53.97* which edged out teammate Ryan Song who finished in second with a time of 54.21. Kircher also set a new Golden West Sprint Invite record I the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.93, which ranks fourth all-time in ECC history.

Yousefi became the new ECC record-holder in the 50 butterfly after winning the event with a time of 23.95. He also won the 50 backstroke (25.32, 4th in ECC all-time).

In the relays, the team of Kircher, Song, Justin Rash and Dylan Kenney set a new event record in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:23.72 en route to winning the event.

The Warriors will now spend the weekend at Mount San Antonio College for a tri-meet on Friday against the Mounties and Rio Hondo followed by the Mt. SAC Invitational on Saturday.
