Park Records Three Wins to Highlight SCC Pentathlon

TORRANCE, Calif. --- Sophomore Mia Park highlighted El Camino College's day at the South Coast Conference Pentahlon Friday, recording four individual wins at the ECC Aquatics Center.

Park, the defending 3C2A state champion in the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle, went back to work on Friday with wins in the 200 Individual Medley, 100 butterfly (1:00.32), and 100 backstroke (1:01.24)

Her time of 2:12.22 in the 200 IM was the second-best time in ECC history with teammate Iyanah Samayoa (2:14.99) finishing in second in the race and posting the seventh best time in school history in the event.

Park was also a member of the 200 medley relay squad and the 200 mixed freestyle team that also won their events. She finished second in the 100 free with a time of 54.39.

Samayoa, who broke the ECC record in the 100 and 200 breaststroke last week, also recorded a win in the 100 breaststroke on Friday with a time of 1:08.31. It was the second straight week she bested Sue Saatkamp's 43-year-old record (1:08.31) and slots herself in second on the all-time list behind only her newly minted school record of 1:07.88.

The Warriors had a number of other solid outings on Friday with Raina Henty-Dodd (backstroke) and Diana Nguyen (butterfly) joining Samayoa (breaststroke) and Park (freestyle) in the victorious 200 medley relay team for the Warriors.

Other highlights included:

  • Ryan Song (2:00.61) and Fin Kircher (2:01.52) finishing third and fourth in the men's 200 IM
  • Kircher finished second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.40 and third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.30.
  • Alex Yousefi and Justin Rash joined Park and Samayoa in winning the 200 mixed free relay with a time of 1:37.07.

The Warriors will return to action on Feb. 23 at the Golden West Sprint Invite at Golden West College.
