Park Sets New Record as Warriors Face Pasadena, Long Beach City

LONG BEACH, Calif. --- Freshman Mia Park continued her record-setting debut season for El Camino College, breaking an ECC record that stood for more than 25 years as the Warriors faced Pasadena and Long Beach City in a South Coast Conference Tri-Meet on Friday at Long Beach City College.

Park broke the ECC record in the 200-yard butterfly, winning the event with a time of 2:10.72. She smashed Karin Best's 27-year old record by more than four seconds as the old mark was set at 2:14.88 back on April 12, 1996 when the Warriors faced Pasadena in a dual meet.

Park's teammate, Angelina Norris, finished second in the event with a time of 2:49.70.

It was one of Park's two individual victories on the day and three total. She won the 200-yard breaststroke event with a time of 2:31.84, nearly 30 full seconds better than runner-up Hailey Wadlington of LBCC.

Park was also a member of the victorious 4x400-yard freestyle relay team that finished with a time of 4:00.95. Park swam the second leg of the relay with Leiana Gonzalez leading off, Diana Nguyen going third and Melissa Brill swimming the anchor leg.

The Warriors will return to action on Friday morning when they host Cerritos at the ECC Aquatics Center at 10 a.m.
