Men Split, Women Sweep in Dual Meet at Rio Hondo

WHITTIER, Calif. --- The El Camino College swimming and diving squad traveled to Rio Hondo for a dual meet against the host Roadrunners and Chaffey.

The men scored a 166-30 win over Chaffey but were edged 135.50-131.50 against Rio Hondo while the women defeated Rio Hondo 114-108 along with Chaffey 111-56.

On the men's side, Tyler Trejo won the 1-meter diving event to start things off in Whittier. Other winners included the men's 200 medley relay team of Aidan Gutierrez, Gary Bellingham, Ethan Tom and Daniel Fuentes (1:52.42), Sawyer Ruth in the 1000 freestyle (11:32.36), Matthew Oswald in the men's 50 freestyle (25.33), Bellinghamd in the 100 freestyle (53.07), Hudson Brann in the 200 backstroke (2:37.45), Daniel Fuentes in the 500 freestyle with a season-best 5:13.56 and the men's 400 freestyle relay team of Oswald, Steven Olsen, Ruth and Brann with a time of 3:47.50.

For the women, Melissa Brill scored a pair of victories as she won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:59.24, the 15th fastest time in school history. She also won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 3:00.62, also the 15th fastest time in school history.

Other winners for the women included Lauren Hernandez in the 200 free with a season-best time of 2:28.24); Megumi Watanabe in the 100 free with a season-best time of 1:08.22; Bridget Lee in the 500 free (6:30.28) and the women's 400 free relay squad of Lee, Hernandez, Watanabe and Brill with a time of 4:37.21.

The Warriors will return to action at the Pasadena Invitational which takes place on April 7-9.
