Katsouridis Highlights Dominant Showing for Warriors in Dual Meet

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College hosted its first dual meet of the season and the Warriors made themselves right at home with a dominant showing against East Los Angeles and L.A. Trade Tech on Friday afternoon.

The Warriors women scored a pair of wins and improved to 3-1 in dual meets this year while the men scored a win over L.A. Trade Tech to improve to 2-1. East Los Angeles did not travel a men's swim team.

The highlight of the day came in the women's 3-meter dive as Athena Katsouridis won the event with a score of 200.20 points, becoming only the second woman in ECC history to score more than 200 points in any diving event. Current diving coach Laurie Dowdy is the other woman to record the feat.

Other highlights on the women's side included Cindy Ngo taking the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:02.74, which is the eighth fastest time in the state this season. Ngo also took home the win in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.38 with Elizabeth Guerrero coming in second at 29.96. Other winners included Andrea Canchola in the 1000 freestyle (12:26.86) and Danielle Mora in the 100 backstroke (1:20.44). Clare Siverts (100 breastroke; 1:16.16) and Samantha Beattie (200 butterfly; 2:55.86) also scored wins.

On the men's side, Wyatt Kircher scored a victory in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:22.23, which ranks 12th in ECC history. Aziz Jaouhar won the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.93, the seventh best time in ECC history.

The Warriors host another dual meet on Friday, March 23 as they welcome Cerritos and Rio Hondo to the ECC Pool at 12:30 p.m.
