Radeke Brilliant as Warriors Blank Cerritos

TORRANCE, Calif. --- Sophomore Madilyn Radeke tossed another complete-game gem as El Camino College blanked Cerritos, 1-0, in a South Coast Conference game on Thursday at the ECC Softball Field.

Radeke was magnificent in the circle yet again for the Warriors as she recorded her fourth shutout of the season and 11th complete game, allowing five hits and striking out four without issuing a walk. She is now 12-2 on the year with a 1.68 ERA with opponents hitting just .243 against her.

The performance was much needed as the Warriors' typically high-powered offense was stymied by Cerritos starter Reanna Carranza, who allowed ECC to record just one hit in six innings.

But the Warriors made the most of that one hit along with some help from some Falcons defensive miscues to score the only run of the game in the fourth inning.

Malia Martin led off with a clean single to center field and then advanced to second on a perfect sacrifice bunt by Cerise Cervantes.

Julianna Vasquez grounded out to third for the second out of the inning but Martin made things happen on the base paths as she stole third with Lilly Lewis at the plate.

Catcher Jimena Velasquez threw to third with no one covering the bag and the throw ended up in left field, allowing Martin to score on the error for what would be the game-winning run.

Radeke did the rest as she retired 12 straight hitters at one point but had to dig down in the seventh as the Falcons mounted one last stand. The Falcons loaded the bases on three straight singles with to begin the seventh inning but Radeke regained her dominant form, getting two straight infield flies to second base and shortstop and then got Morgan Fontela to hit a weak flyout to center to end the game and secure the win for the Warriors.

With the victory, the Warriors have swept the season series from the Falcons for the first time since 2019 after getting swept by the Falcons the past two seasons.

Thursday's game was also the Warriors' first of seven games in the span of eight days to conclude the regular season. They will return to action on Friday afternoon to host L.A. Harbor with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
