Inzunza Highlights All-Conference Selections

TORRANCE, Calif. --- Four El Camino College players were named to the 2023 All-South Coast Conference Team, it was announced Monday.

Sophomore Kayla Inzunza highlighted the four selections for the Warriors as the lone selection on the first team while Alyssa Lujan, Malia Martin and Skylar Sanchez made the second team. Destiny Ostorga and Leesa Parral were each honorable mention.

Inzunza earned her second straight All-SCC First Team selection after leading the Warriors with a .392 batting average. She led the team with 47 hits and 19 stolen bases and tied for first on the team with 28 runs scored. She also added six doubles, four triples and three home runs. She also led the Warriors with a .423 on-base percentage and slugged at .583 for the season.

In her two-year career at ECC, Inzunza has played in 78 games and tallied 108 hits. She batted .404 with 69 runs scored, 23 doubles, nine triples and five home runs with 45 career RBI and 41 stolen bases.

Lujan earned a spot on the All-SCC Second Team after getting a first-team nod last season. The sophomore outfielder was third on the team with a .357 batting average with 41 hits including three doubles and four triples. She scored 19 runs and stole 15 bases.

In two years with the Warriors, Lujan has played in 79 games and batted .386 with 93 hits including 13 doubles and 15 triples. She scored 52 runs and stole 30 bases with 32 RBI in her career.

Sanchez was a two-way standout for the Warriors this season as she earned an All-SCC Second Team nod. The sophomore batted .350 in 38 games and tallied 36 hits with nine doubles, three triples and a team-high four home runs. She drove in 23 RBI with 24 runs scored and stole seven bases. In addition, Sanchez was the ace of the pitching staff as she led the team with 17 appearances and 12 starts. She posted a 1.90 ERA in 84 and 2/3 innings of work. She struck out 31 batters and went 9-4 with eight complete games.

In her two seasons with ECC, Sanchez has played in 78 games and posted a .311 batting average with 64 hits including 15 doubles, three triples and six homers.

Martin was the lone freshman selected to the All-SCC Team for the Warriors, making the second team. The infielder has played in all 40 games so far for the Warriors and was second on the team with a .358 batting average. She tallied 44 hits and led the team with 11 doubles and five triples while also hitting one home run. She scored a team-high 28 runs and stole eight bases.

Ostorga and Parral were each honorable mention with Ostorga playing in 35 games and batting .304 with 21 hits including 12 doubles. She also tied for the team lead in appearances in the circle with 17 and made eight starts. She went 8-3 with a 1.77 ERA in 55 and 1/3 innings pitched. Parral played in 36 games during the regular season and posted a .324 batting average with 34 hits and added 12 stolen bases.

The Warriors finished the regular season with a 24-16 overall record and earned the No. 11 seed in the 2023 3C2A Softball SoCal Regionals. They will take on No. 6 Ventura beginning on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
