Softball Sweeps Canyons and Cypress On the Road

CYPRESS, Calif. - In the third triangular of the season against Cypress College and College of the Canyons, the Warriors won both games against either opponent on Saturday afternoon at  Cypress College.

EL CAMINO COLLEGE 10, COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS 2 (5 INNINGS)

The No. 8 Warriors dominated the first game of the afternoon in a 10-2 victory in five innings over College of the Canyons.  The Warriors completed a three game sweep over the College of the Canyons.

Elizabeth Cortez picked up the win after tossing five innings and giving up two runs on four hits, two walks, and striking out one batter.  

Seven of the Warriors in the starting lineup had at least one hit.  Kylee Perryman was the only batter to have two hits in the game.

The Warriors had an eight run lead after only two innings.  The Warriors put up two runs in the first inning before exploding for six runs in the second inning.  They sent nine batters to the dish in the second inning and scored six runs over three hits and two errors.  

The Cougars got two runs back in the third inning to make it an 8-2 game.  

However, in the fifth inning, the Warriors were able to score twice to end the game early with a run-rule victory.  Mina Nakawake led the inning off with a walk and advanced to second on a sac bunt. Belle Estrada tripled to score Nakawake and Marissa Garza singled to center field to bring in Estrada and put the game away early in the fifth inning.  

 

EL CAMINO COLLEGE 6, CYPRESS COLLEGE 3

The No. 8 El Camino Warriors upset the No.1 Cypress Chargers at their home field in their second game of the day with a 6-3 victory on Saturday afternoon.  The Warriors won the series vs Cypress 2-1, with both wins coming on the road at Canyons and at Cypress.

Jocelyn Hernandez picked up the win inside the circle after going the distance and tossing seven innings giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks.

Jocelyn Hernandez had a multi-hit day at the plate along with Marissa Garza and Alena De La Torre.  Kassidy Robinson hit her second home run of the season.

The Warriors struck first for two runs in the second inning.  Alena De La Torre led the inning off with a bunt single and advanced to third base after Mina Nakawake reached on a RF error.  Marissa Garza singled to center field to bring in both runners to make it a 2-0 game.

The Warriors exploded for four runs in the fifth inning.  Belle Estrada led the inning off with a walk before Garza doubled Estrada in to make it a 3-0 game.  Kassidy Robinson homered in the next at-bat to make it a 5-0 game. Jocelyn Hernandez was able to double with one out before Alena De La Torre tripled Hernandez in to make it a 6-0 game.  

Cypress College added a solo run in each the fifth, sixth, and seven inning but it wasn't enough against the Warriors six run advantage

The Warriors are currently on a 15-game win streak, their longest streak of the season.  During this current streak the Warriors have outscored opponents 99 runs to 25 runs.

They have two home games in the upcoming week and one more road game after that to finish the regular season.  They host Grossmont College on Monday, April 15th as it was rescheduled from a March 6th rainout. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM at Warrior Softball Field.
