Softball Dominates Cerritos for Eighth Straight Win

Diamond Lewis drove in half of El Camino College's runs Thursday afternoon as the Warriors coasted to an 8-1 victory over Cerritos in a South Coast Conference, South Division tilt at Nancy Kelly Field.

Lewis was stellar at the dish, going 2-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBI to lead the Warriors offensively. Maisie Weishoff was also 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and picked up the win in the circle, tossing a complete-game. She allowed 10 hits but only one run and struck out three.

The Warriors have now won eight straight games and 18 of their last 19 after posting a 10-game winning streak from Feb. 15-March 8. Lewis has hit safely in all 26 games she has played this season and leads the team with a .560 batting average, posting 51 hits in 91 at-bats.

On Thursday, the Warriors opened the scoring in the second inning on an RBI groundout from Weishoff to take a 1-0 lead. In the third, Lewis blasted a two-run homer to left field, scoring Santa Iontchevska and giving ECC a 3-0 advantage.

The Warriors took a 5-0 lead in the fourth before Cerritos got one back in the fifth. But the Warriors scored three times in the sixth inning to put the game away, capped off by Lewis' two-run double.

The Warriors will return to action Friday afternoon as they host Citrus College at the ECC Softball Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
