Warriors Win Fifth Straight with Rout over Long Beach

TORRANCE, Calif. – Before El Camino College had a chance to bat, the Warriors trailed Long Beach by a run. After the Warriors finished their first at-bats of the day, the game was essentially over.

The Warriors used a five-run first and offensive outburst to defeat the Vikings 13-1 in a South Coast Conference, South Division contest Thursday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

Diamond Lewis led an offensive onslaught for the Warriors as she went 3-for-3 for the second consecutive game. She hit two doubles, scored three times and had three RBI for the Warriors (20-6, 6-0) along with three stolen bases. Alyssa Wing was 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored and Ashley Machado was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Clarissa Chiquete picked up the win in the circle as she allowed just one run on three hits in four innings of work. Ma'Kylah Smith pitched a scoreless fifth inning to secure the win for ECC.

The Vikings jumped out in front in the first inning as pitcher Alissa Cienfuegos showed off her bat, blasting a two-out solo home run well over the center field fence to put LBCC up 1-0. The Vikings added a double in the frame but Chiquete limited the damage to one run.

In the bottom of the inning, the Warriors responded in a big way, plating five runs on five hits and two Vikings errors to take the lead for good. They would score 13 times in the first three innings and never look back.

The Warriors had six extra-base hits on the day and also stole seven bases en route to the win. Lewis has now gone 7-for-7 in her last eight at-bats with three doubles, one triple, a sacrifice fly and seven RBI. The team will return to action on Monday as they host Santiago Canyon at the ECC Softball Field in a make-up game from a rainout on March 2. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
