Sancen, Robinson Help Warriors Score Comeback Win over Huskies

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College overcame a pair of three-run deficits to score an 8-7 victory over East Los Angeles Thursday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

Jazmyn Sancen went 3-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI and Kassidy Robinson hit a two-run home run to lead the offense for the Warriors (15-5), who won their tenth straight game. Ashley Machado scored three times as seven different Warriors recorded hits on the day.

Clarissa Chiquete secured her ninth win of the season as she tossed four innings of relief. She allowed three runs, one earned, on five hits.

For the Huskies, Angelina Gonzales led the way as she went 3-for-5 on the day with Monet Manning, Natalie Acosta and Ralynda Delarea recording two hits apiece.

The Huskies jumped out in front early, capitalizing on some hot bats and some Warriors miscues in the first inning. Manning opened the scoring with a two-run triple to right and then Samantha Alvarado reached on an error at first, allowing Manning to score and make it a 3-0 hole for the Warriors before they even got to bat.

In their half of the first, the Warriors got two runs back on an RBI fielder's choice by Alyssa Wing and a two-out RBI double from Alena De La Torre.

After the Huskies added a run in the second, the Warriors knotted things up in the third on wild pitch and throwing error, which allowed Machado and Sancen to score from third and second base respectively.

The Huskies immediately answered in the fourth, loading the bases against Chiquete in her first inning of work. Sara Serrano singled to left field to plate the go-ahead run and then Delarea reached on an error at third base, allowing two runs to come in and give the Huskies a 7-4 lead.

It would be a short-lived advantage for the visitors though as Robinson blasted a two-run home run to right-center with one out in the bottom of the fourth to make it 7-6. With two outs, Lewis extended her hitting streak to 19 games with a double through the left side that went off the diving shortstop's glove and into foul territory.

Machado then hit a routine grounder to second that was botched and Lewis hustled all the way home to tie things up.

After the Warriors catcher stole second and third, Sancen came up clutch with a soft single that got past the shortstop, allowing Machado to score what turned out to be the game-winning run.

Chiquete would allow just three baserunners in the last three innings, retiring the side in order in the seventh to secure the win.

The Warriors will return to action on Tuesday as they hit the road to face Chaffey. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
