Warriors Defeat Rio Hondo at Home

TORRANCE, Calif. – Rylee Rehders had three RBI as El Camino College used a late surge to score a run-rule victory over Rio Hondo, 9-1, Thursday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

Rehders finished the day 1-for-2 with a two-run double and also scored a run for the Warriors (13-5), who recorded their eighth straight win. Offensively, the Warriors only recorded five hits but did swipe 12 stolen bases on the day.

Clarissa Chiquete picked up her eighth win of the season as she tossed four innings and allowed just one unearned run. She had a no-hitter going through three innings before the Roadrunners (3-13-1) strung together three hits off the Warriors pitcher in the fourth inning. Maisie Weishoff and Ma'Kylah Smith each tossed an inning of scoreless relief to protect the lead.

The Warriors actually trailed 1-0 in the second inning but Rehders' double plated Vanessa Perez and Jazmyn Sancen to give the Warriors the lead. Amie Crawford followed with an RBI single to bring in Rehders to make it 3-1 and the Warriors never looked back.

The team broke it open in the fifth inning, scoring five times on just one hit. The Warriors benefited on a Roadrunners error, and a wild pitch on the way to the five runs.

In the sixth, the Warriors sealed the win as Ronni Silas scored on an error at second to make it 9-1 and put an end to the game.

The Warriors will return to action on Friday afternoon as they host Santiago Canyon at the ECC Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
